From a public health perspective, there haven’t been any human cases associated with the HPAI H5 virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk to people is low at this time.

Every state that has confirmed HPAI H5 in birds is monitoring workers who have been exposed. DHHS is working with the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department to interview workers about their possible exposure and monitor them if appropriate.
