Rabies suspect animals need to be sent directly to Kansas State University, not UNL. It is best to include the entire animal brain for testing, for conclusive results.
The Compendium for the Prevention of Rabies in Animals is updated yearly and can be downloaded from the CDC website. It is the recommended tool for veterinarians, to provide correct advice to clients.
The Compendium (referenced above) also provides important information on post-exposure rabies treatment.
